With Census day now behind us, we want to thank you for your support in helping our campaign messages reach people in every corner of the country.
We know that millions of people saw or heard our messages via social media, print and online media, website activity, radio coverage and online discussion.
Our metrics show:
- On our Meta campaign platform (Facebook and Instagram), our paid ad content recorded about 5.2 million views, while our posts recorded about 3.6 million views;
- An estimated ‘earned media’ exposure of more than 4 million;
- More than 65,000 people visited our website;
- Over 7,500 people completed the ‘quiz’ that encouraged them to reflect on their beliefs;
- Individual videos had tens of thousands of views on different social media channels.
We were grateful that author Jane Caro and former Victorian parliamentarian Fiona Patten joined with media personality and assisted dying advocate Andrew Denton in adding their voices to our campaign in the weeks before Census day, helping to amplify our key messages.
We’re also really grateful to all those people who made individual financial contributions to the campaign.
Since launching our Census 2026 campaign earlier this year, we received 72 individual contributions, helping us to raise an extra $4000-plus for the campaign.
This additional money helped us to reach hundreds of thousands more people with messages including the ones below in the lead-up to Census day.
Every dollar contributed to the campaign, from individuals and organisations, was spent on amplifying our messages through the campaign’s Meta platforms.
We now look forward to the release of the 2026 data – expected to happen mid next year.
We’ll also then take the opportunity to fully participate in the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ public consultation process in preparation for the next Census in 2031.
And, of course, we’ll continue to call for reform of the religion question.
We’ll keep you updated on developments on these matters via this email subscription.
We welcome your feedback about our 2026 campaign. If you have comments, suggestions or otherwise, please send them to admin@censusnotreligious.org.au.
Finally, we again thank our sponsoring organisations — Rationalist Society of Australia, Humanists Australia, National Secular Lobby, Humanists Victoria, Secular Association of NSW, Australian Skeptics (Victoria Branch), and Recovering from Religion Australia – for their support.
We encourage you to visit their websites and support their work. Find out more about these groups here.
