We’re pleased to have media personality and voluntary assisted dying advocate Andrew Denton add his voice to the ‘Census – Not Religious?‘ campaign.
In a video published on our website today, Denton talks about the problem with the religion question and reminds Australians about the importance of marking ‘No religion’ if they’re not religious so as to help deliver more accurate Census data.
“On Census night, August 11, say what’s true for you. Ensure your community is fairly represented,” he says.
But Andrew also highlights an example of governments ignoring the Census data by funding faith-based hospitals that refuse to provide a range of services to the public.
With Census day just around the corner now, we’re making one final push to spread our campaign messages to as many people as possible on social media.

Every dollar given to the campaign by that deadline will be matched (up to a total of $5,000) and will go towards advertising our campaign messages leading up to Census day on 11 August.
Also, please sign our online petition to help us send a strong message to the Australian Bureau of Statistics that we want it to fix the religion question for future Censuses so that all Australians can have access to accurate data.
The petition will continue to support our advocacy work into the future, as we call for the ABS to adopt a new design for the religion question.
