Read our comments about the Census religion question in The Saturday Paper

The controversy about the decision to re-use the leading Census question is making headlines.

The latest edition of The Saturday Paper has highlighted the Catholic Church’s lobbying of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in 2024, and the request for him to “reverse” the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ proposed change to the question.

In The Saturday Paper, our spokesperson Michael Dove was quoted as saying that the flawed Census religion question would continue to lead to “bad data” and that it would “therefore lead to bad decisions and bad debate, bad policy, bad funding”.

He added: “It is a disgrace that our leading statistical agency has been forced to deliver data that it knows to be inaccurate and substandard.”
